Mi Familia!

People are often shocked when I tell them I have 3 kids - I’ll definitely take that as a compliment. Jasiah - age 17, Jordan - age 10 & Jada - age 8. My husband Jerry and I have been married for 10 years. It’s been a wild ride, but no one else I’d rather do this journey with. He understands my wild, creative ideas and fully supports me. That’s so crucial for any entrepreneur. If you haven’t already noticed, my household is full of J’s; yes it's somewhat intentional. I affectionately call them the “J Crew”.

The most common question I get is: how do you manage a full-time job, a husband, 3 kids, and a side business(es)? The full truth, 100% transparency - I have A LOT of help. My husband is extremely hands on with the kids and my extended family is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!! Without the help of my family there is absolutely no way I could do a fraction of the things I do. But I also have loads of unwashed laundry. There’s no pretty picture here and that’s me keeping it all the way real. 

Speaking of pictures, one of my favourite things to do with my family is taking formal family portraits - especially during Christmas time. I spend months planning a concept, ordering and coordinating our outfits, finding the right space and hiring a photographer. They all think I’m super “extra” and over the top for it (awwww Christmas pictures again?!) but deep down they cherish the moments that we capture as a family.

In my nursing field I work with many individuals who have cognitive impairments and one thing that helps me catch a glimpse into who they were in their younger years are their pictures. So every year, I will continue to make every effort to coordinate my “J Crew” no matter how reluctant they may be for our annual family portraits. Say cheese!
